Hungry for Jesus exists to provide God-centred hope and help for women to conquer disordered eating.
We are based in Ottawa, Canada.
We pray that you will live filled with the grace, love and power of our wholly-satisfying God. Through allowing God to meet your deepest needs, you will turn your back on disordered eating behaviors.
Who We Serve:
The ministry is not just for women with a diagnosed, named eating disorder. You may simply know that your eating behaviors are distressing and are how you cope with life. And you long to change that. I’ve found that a common reason for denial of the need for help is that “I’ve never been told I have an eating disorder”. We serve all women who struggle in this way, diagnosed or not.
The site and ministry have a focus on God and Jesus . If you don’t consider yourself to be Christian, I hope you will still feel welcome to explore the site and be in contact. There are links to eating disorder organizations on the Resources tab which do not have a God-centred focus. They’re very helpful.
If you wish, click on the box “Why Have Faith In Jesus?” to explore how vitally important Jesus is. Please know you can contact me at any time.
What’s In A Name?
The name “Hungry For Jesus” symbolizes seeking an intimate relationship with God, through Jesus, to satisfy our deepest needs. The Bible frequently uses words related to “eating”. You will find: eat, food, filled, bread, taste, satisfy, dine, feast, hunger …. many hundreds, if not thousands of times, in God’s Word. They are used most often to communicate that God does satisfy our needs through a deep, personal relationship with Him.
Here are some examples. The Psalmist says in Psalm 34:8 “Taste and see that the Lord is good”. And again in Psalm 63:5 “You satisfy me more than the richest of foods”. Jesus says in Revelation 3:20: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me”.
There is no doubt that experiencing God in this deep way brings me hope and strength to turn away from disordered eating. And so, the ministry is named “Hungry For Jesus”.
What About The Logo?
The logo of the Holy Bible on a plate with utensils at the ready is an encouragement to “taste” His words in the Bible, which is His communication to us. Really dig into it and learn how to apply its wisdom to your life. In the Bible’s pages you will learn (among many things) about the character of God, how to form a relationship with Him, and how He alone can fully satisfy our needs.
The terms “eating disorder”, “disordered eating”, and “harmful eating behaviors” may be used interchangeably as we are not focussing on precise terminology but rather the spiritual aspect of the behaviors. Where necessary, a precise term will be used.
If you have an eating disorder diagnosis and are in treatment with a physician, therapist or dietician, I urge you to continue treatment. If you have never seen a professional about your harmful eating behaviors, I strongly suggest you do this without delay.
